Texas church has perfect, beautiful response to state’s removal of rainbow crosswalks
In response to Greg Abbott’s directive ordering Texas cities to remove rainbow crosswalks and other roadway symbols deemed “political,” Oak Lawn United Methodist Church in Dallas decided instead to paint its front steps in the colours of the rainbow. The move is framed as a “pastoral” act of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, not a political one, according to senior pastor Rachel Griffin‑Allison, who stated that “silence is not neutral … when forces of power try to erase symbols of queer joy and inclusion.” The project is expected to take roughly two weeks.
