Based on a survey of 302 transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse adults conducted in December 2024, a report from the Williams Institute highlights significant concerns about safety and discrimination following the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
Nearly half of respondents (48%) have either moved or are considering moving to more trans-affirming locations, citing hostile political climates and restrictive laws as primary reasons. 45% desire to move out of the US.
30% reported traveling less frequently due to concerns about anti-trans sentiment, while 70% expressed reluctance to visit states perceived as less supportive of transgender rights.

The end goal for Dr Russell and Beyond Reflections is to create a network hub for researchers working on trans-related projects that gives them a space to share and receive feedback on data that they otherwise might not receive at the University.
Dubbed the Trans+ Network Hub, Dr Russell says they aim for the network to become a “center of excellence” for trans-related research that isn’t “frightened to break a bit of convention” and is open to collaborating with other research hubs.
