Nepal creates pro-trans ministry (+ more transgender news)

In a landmark step for LGBTIQ+ rights, Nepal has created the Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security, explicitly naming gender and sexual minorities in its title for the first time.

The new ministry is expected to work on protection, empowerment and social security for women, children, marginalised communities and LGBTIQ+ people. For activists, the inclusion of “Gender and Sexual Minorities” in the ministry’s official name is symbolically important: it signals state recognition of communities that have long fought for visibility, dignity and equal rights.

Trans misogyny is not victimless, it leaves a deep shadow for no other reason than to satisfy the hate of the person extolling it.
