The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has upheld Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for transgender minors in a 6–3 decision in United States v. Skrmetti.
The Court’s majority avoided addressing whether anti-trans laws violate the Equal Protection Clause or if transgender people constitute a protected class.
Instead, it ruled narrowly, allowing bans based on gender dysphoria and distinguishing this from discrimination against transgender identity—creating what critics call a legal loophole for discrimination.
The dissent, led by Justice Sotomayor, sharply criticized the majority’s rationale, arguing that the Tennessee law clearly discriminates based on both sex and transgender status.
On Tuesday evening, a federal judge granted class certification to transgender people seeking to update the gender marker on their passports. The ruling expands a prior decision—previously limited to a handful of named plaintiffs—to now cover all transgender individuals applying for a passport or seeking to renew one with an accurate gender marker.
During a House Armed Services Committee hearing last week, Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) laid out the decorated service records of three women: one a U.S. Army major in the top 5% of her class, one a combat pilot with more than 50 missions, and one a highly rated ROTC instructor. She asked Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth (who helped reinstate the military’s transgender ban under Trump) if the Pentagon should be doing everything it can to retain women like that.
“Yes,” he replied.
Then came the twist: all three of the women are transgender.
The South Sudanese authorities want to throw LGBTQ refugees out of the camp and force them to move into the capital Juba. This puts the refugees in serious jeopardy.
The Maine Senate has rejected legislation aimed at banning transgender girls from participating in school sports and using gender-specific facilities. The bill, LD 1134, was defeated in a 21-14 vote, with one Republican senator, Rick Bennett, joining Democrats in opposition.
Another bill, LD 380, which sought to restrict access to gender-affirming health care for minors aged 16 and older, was also voted down by the same margin.
“For every out trans woman in the female estate there are order of magnitude more female sex offenders across the estate, which asks the question as to why cisgender female sex offenders are not considered a threat in the same way that trans women who committed no sexual crimes are.”
The data itself suggest that this is within the bounds of actual cisgender female sexual offences conviction rates in the UK, so 1 trans woman per year fits a normative sexual predation pattern in the UK. This is based on population size alone, and is only a statistical exercise based on flawed data. In reality there is no way to know for sure what the actual ratio truly is.
