State Department Reverses Course, Says Trans Passports Will Be Valid Until They Expire

The Trump Administration Just Quietly Walked Back Its Passport Invalidation Threat

The U.S. State Department has walked back website language that hinted it could invalidate trans Americans’ passports. After a Supreme Court ruling favoring the Trump administration’s gender-marker policy, the site was updated last week to say passports are valid until expiration, replacement, or invalidation under federal regulation, implying mass revocations were possible. Following public backlash and media attention, the wording now states that all passports remain valid until their expiration date under ICAO policy.
