Kelly Clarkson invites ‘thriving’ trans teen back onto her show for Trans Awareness Week
This 2023 study examines “trans phantoms”- bodily sensations of gendered parts a person was not born with (e.g., a phantom penis in a trans man or a phantom vagina in a trans woman) – as a facet of transgender and gender-diverse embodiment distinct from dysphoria’s sense of “missing” parts. Researchers analyzed responses from 1,446 adults who completed an online survey on trans embodiment. Nearly half reported experiencing a trans phantom at some point, and most of those said the phantom could include erotic sensation. The authors argue that while not universal, trans phantoms appear to be a typical, meaningful phenomenon for many transgender and nonbinary people and merit further study.
