Trans people should use hospital spaces according to biological sex, NHS England says
NHS England has introduced new guidance requiring transgender patients to be accommodated on hospital wards according to their sex registered at birth rather than their gender identity.
The policy reverses previous guidance allowing trans people to be placed in wards corresponding to their gender identity. Trans women may therefore be assigned to men’s wards, and trans men to women’s wards. The restrictions also extend to staff toilets and changing facilities.
