A UK health official who helped pause a major clinical trial of puberty blockers has been removed from any further involvement after allegations of bias.
The Guardian reports that Prof Jacob George (photo), appointed chief medical and scientific officer at the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in January, raised concerns that contributed to the government putting King’s College London’s Pathways trial on hold.
George has been recused as a precaution after gender-critical social media posts from 2025 surfaced, including praise for JK Rowling and comments about “basic biological fact”.
“Being part of ‘Big Brother Mzansi’ was truly a blessing for Ilano. She wanted this and it was evident as we all witnessed, she used the platform to showcase her incredible talents, vibrant energy and to proudly represent the LGBTQI+ community in the best way she knew how,” read a statement shared on Ilano’s social media pages after her exit.
